Work and Employment in the Global Economy (Level 4; 10 ECTS credits)
The WEGE course is an advanced elective module open to graduate students of the UCD Colleges of Business, Social Sciences and Law, as well as the European Masters in Labor Studies (EMLS) students from UCD and other members of the EMLS network. It analyses the impact of globalisation, European integration, and the EU's new economic governance regime on work and employment and compares the changes in European employment relations with recent developments in the USA and Asia. The module includes a field trip to the tripartite EU agency 'Eurofound' (European Foundation for the Improvement of Working and Living Conditions) in Dublin.
European Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management (Level 3; 5 ECTS credits)
The European IR & HRM course is a core module for the students of our UCD-Cornell ILR (industrial and labor relations) programme and an elective module open to all UCD business, law and social science undergraduate students. The module introduces the students to European integration, European industrial relations and international human resources management. It includes a 3-day study trip to Brussels where students have direct access to actors that shape the emerging multi-level European employment relations system, i.e. European employer and trade union federations, Commission officials and Members of the European Parliament.

The students met with EU officials and practitioners from the European Parliament (MEPs Martina Anderson and Sean Kelly, Ireland), the European Trade Union Confederation (Pablo Sánchez Centellas, EPSU; Torsten Müller, ETUI), BusinessEurope (Jessie Fernandes, Advisor; Sascha Daghofer, Advisor Federation of Austrian Industries), and the European Commission (Stefano Filauro, Tim Van Rie, Filip Tanay, DG EMPL).

1-4 Sep 2019: The 12 UCD/Cornell Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR) students who are participating in this year's 'ILR Semester in Dublin' programme visited the prestigious European University Institute (EUI), the renowned Centre on Social Movement Studies (Cosmos) at the Scuola Normale Superiore (SNS), and the national Centro Studi CISL. The study trip explored 'The state of social and political conflict in Europe'.
1-4 Sep 2018: A new 4-day long field trip to Florence took students from our US partner university Cornell to the prestigious European University Institute (EUI), the renowned Centre on Social Movement Studies (Cosmos) at the Scuola Normale Superiore (SNS), the academic center of New York University (NYU) and the national Centro Studi CISL of the reformist Italian trade union confederation (CISL). The trip explored 'The state of social and political conflict in Europe''.
